West Philly mandolin-bass gutter-folk duo Driftwood Soldier release Blessings & Blasphemy into the wild.
Blessings & Blasphemy is a split EP on which Driftwood Soldier plays both sides: the half that's reinterpreted traditional Christian gospel, and the half made up of original anti-religious anthems.
Stretched across the divide is the tension between the spiritual power of music and the oppressive potential of religious dogma, a tension the release show will explore further with stories and additional music alongside some of Philly's finest musicians (including Katy Otto [Trophy Wife, Callowhill], Natalie Butts [Sunflights], Liana Moskowitz and Chenda Cope [The Old Fashioneds, The Four Prophet String Band and every good Philly bluegrass jam]).
Expect rants, lullabyes, shouting, spontaneous dancing, seraphic voices and, of course, your first opportunity to buy the album!
At L'Etage (entrance on Bainbridge). Doors at 7 pm. Show at 7:30 pm.
